Interested in becoming a Commissioner?

Volunteer Commissioners appointed by the Governor provide policy guidance, management and ongoing support for ServeNebraska. Fifteen to twenty-five Nebraskans serve in this capacity each year.

Individuals with a wide variety skills, backgrounds and experiences are needed to reflect the diversity of Nebraskans.

Commissioners are expected to:

  • Devote the time and energy needed to develop and maintain understanding of ServeNebraska
  • Attend and participate actively in Commission meetings
  • Actively serve on a Commission committee
  • Develop and share relationships that benefit ServeNebraska
  • Be an active ambassador for ServeNebraska and national service
  • Be prepared to participate

By law, Commissioners represent various constituencies on state service commissions. No more than fifty percent of the membership, plus one, can belong to any one political party. Also, effort must be made to balance other factors, such as geographical representation.

Please contact Barbara Wilson Thomas (Phone: (402) 471-6227) to further explore the possibility of serving your state as ServeNebraska Commissioner.
